Putting the shoe compartment at the bottom is the correct call, and here's why
This is a load-carrying point, and I make it constantly when I'm helping people pack a hiking pack, so it applies just as well here. Heavy, dense items belong low and close to your back. Put weight high in a bag and it acts on a longer lever, pulling you backward and making you lean forward to compensate. Put it low and it sits over your centre of gravity, where your body barely notices it.
Shoes are the densest thing in a gym bag. So a bottom shoe compartment isn't just about keeping trainers separate ā though it does that, and the wet-and-dry separation means your damp kit stays away from everything clean. It's also putting the heaviest item exactly where it should be for a comfortable carry. Good design often looks like two problems being solved by one decision.
The rest of the layout follows the same practical logic. A large workout-clothing area with a structured rectangular opening, so the bag holds its shape and you can see what's inside instead of digging blind. Multiple quick-access pockets for the things you need at the door ā keys, card, phone. Side bottle pockets keeping water outside the main compartment, which is the simplest insurance policy in bag design.
There's a padded laptop compartment too, which is what earns it the gym-to-work label rather than just gym. It means one bag covers a day that includes a desk and a session, without your work machine sharing space with your trainers.
The comfortable shoulder harness is worth a word. A fully packed gym bag with shoes, kit, water and a laptop is genuinely heavy ā comparable to a light day pack ā and a harness that spreads that load properly is the difference between an easy walk to the gym and an annoying one.
Water-resistant shell handles the weather and the damp towel. Workout-to-weekend versatility is accurate: the same features that make it good for training make it good for an overnight trip. If you've been running two bags for a life that only needs one ā this consolidates it nicely. Go have a look.
