Why it earns a closer look

Why 60L multi-day space makes Kelty Coyote 60 Backpacking Pack worth a closer look

The Coyote 60 is what "good enough forever" actually looks like

I've come round to a slightly unfashionable position on gear, which is that most people don't need the best version of anything. They need the version that does the job for years without giving them a reason to think about it. In the 60L backpacking category, that's the Coyote.

Before: you're loading a full multi-day kit into a pack with a fixed torso length, and it either sits too high and pulls at your neck, or too low and hangs off your lower back. There's no adjustment, so you just endure it and assume that's what backpacking feels like.

After: the FIT-Pro torso system slides to your measurement, so the hip belt lands on your hips and the shoulder straps land on your shoulders — which sounds obvious right up until you realise how many packs don't manage it. The perimeter frame gives the load something rigid to transfer through, and the AMP-Flow back panel keeps a channel of air open so you're not carrying a heat trap on a climb.

Sixty litres handles genuine multi-day trips. There's a sleeping-bag compartment at the base so soft, bulky kit sits low, and large front access so you can reach the middle of the pack without excavating from the top. That second one is worth real money. Top-loading-only packs make you unpack half your life to find a stove at lunchtime.

Everything else is in the right place: multiple exterior pockets, hydration compatibility, compression straps to stabilise a partial load. Durable value-oriented construction is the phrase that keeps surfacing in owner feedback, and it's the accurate one — this isn't a featherweight and it isn't a luxury item. It's a pack that works.

Which is exactly why I'd point most people here. If you're heading into multi-day trips and you'd rather spend your money on the trips than the equipment, this is a very easy call. Go get it sorted before your next window of free weekends closes.
