Low-profile styling is a functional feature, not a design preference
This is the point I'd most want to make about the SOG Ninja, and it's the one most reviews skip.
Most packs in this category are visually loud ā heavy webbing across every panel, aggressive colourways, obvious military cues. That's fine in some contexts. It's actively unhelpful in others. A pack that announces itself draws attention in a city, looks out of place at an office, and signals to anyone paying attention that you may be carrying something worth taking. Low-profile tactical styling is the solution: the modularity is there, but the bag reads as an ordinary daypack.
So the feature set is the same, minus the announcement. There's MOLLE webbing for attaching pouches where you want them, a hook-and-loop patch field, and organized front pockets that sort small items rather than letting them pool at the bottom. Side compression straps cinch a partial load in toward your spine, which is the cheapest stability improvement available on any pack.
Capacity sits in compact 24L-style daypack territory. That's a deliberate constraint and I think it's the right one ā 24 litres is enough for a day's kit, water, a layer and tools, and small enough that the pack stays close to your back rather than levering out behind you. It's hydration compatible, so water rides flat where its weight does the least to your balance.
The carry system is straightforward: padded shoulder straps and a ventilated back panel. At 24L with a sensible load you don't need a full hip suspension, and I'd rather see a manufacturer skip a token waist strap than fit a useless one.
Durable water-repellent fabric handles ordinary weather ā repellent, to be precise, not waterproof, so sustained rain still calls for a cover or a liner. My conclusion is that this is a well-judged pack for someone who wants modular organisation and daily discretion at the same time, which is a combination fewer bags manage than you'd expect. If that's your use case, it's worth looking at.
